While PBBS is not the only act in town, you will find that small engine part lookup software and even books will cost quite a bit. Other available software often will continue to cost since they're closely tied to continuing and ongoing 'maintenance' payments. While it would be great if we could continuously update the Briggs and Stratton engine parts database and provide all the wonderful features of the big money alternatives, it's just unrealistic. We would need to spend hundreds or maybe thousands just to get the updated information!
I am sure the alternatives to Parts Buddy are justifiable for large, profitable lawnmower and small engine repair shops... On the other hand, PBBS is written by, and priced for the 'little guys' who like to repair, rebuild and tinker with small engines.
By no means does it's usefulness begin and end with ebay. It's possible to use Parts Buddy as a simple inventory and price lookup tool.
